THE RING: Drink Tracker — Help & Support

Published: 21 October 2026

1. Introduction

Small sips. A better you.

THE RING brings 17 drink categories into a calm, dark-mode experience on iPhone. Follow your personal Water goal in the Fluid Ring, see your logged categories in All Drinks, and keep Water progress within reach through iPhone widgets and Apple Watch.

THE RING is completely free and ad-free. There are no accounts, subscriptions or in-app purchases. It is published under the Area13 Studio brand.

2. Contact Support

For help, feedback or an accessibility question, use hello@area13.studio.

Incoming email is forwarded through ImprovMX to an owner-managed Gmail mailbox. Support and privacy replies currently come from that Gmail address rather than the studio-domain alias. The public contact remains hello@area13.studio.

This is an email link, not a website contact form. It opens your email application so you can review and send your message. The website is hosted on Vercel and uses Vercel Web Analytics as described in the Area13 Studio website privacy notice. This concerns website visits, not analytics inside THE RING.

Please include your app version/build from Settings, iPhone model, iOS version, and a short description of what you tried and what happened. For Watch issues, add the Watch model, watchOS version and connection state. Screenshots are optional: review them and hide personal records or times before sending. Do not send passwords or unnecessary medical information.

3. Getting Started

  1. Open THE RING. Choose your goal and bottle size during setup, or use defaults. Setting a bottle size does not add a drink.
  2. In Water, tap a quick amount or Bottle. For another amount, open Custom Amount, enter whole milliliters and save.
  3. In All Drinks, use one of six favorites or More Drinks. Use Edit beside your drinks to change favorite categories, amounts or supported preparation details. Ordinary favorite taps log immediately. Your Water goal still counts Water only.
  4. Check Today after logging. Use its Undo action to correct a recent mistake.
  5. Open Settings whenever you want to adjust your goal, bottle, four Water quick actions, daily pacing window or optional reminders.

4. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change my Water goal or bottle size?

Open Settings, change Daily goal or Bottle size, then Save. Use your bottle’s actual capacity. Changing a setting does not log a drink; tapping Bottle adds the configured amount when you use it.

Can I customize the four Water quick actions?

Yes. In Settings, find Quick Add and choose the action and amount for each slot. Save your changes, then use those actions from Water. Custom Amount remains available for a different Water amount.

Why do Coffee and Tea not advance my Water ring?

The ring follows your separate Water goal. Coffee and Tea are included in All Drinks, but do not change Water progress or Water-reminder calculations. This is how the app organizes your goal; it is not a judgment about their hydration effects. The current app supports 17 categories; all non-Water categories remain separate from the Water goal.

What does All Drinks show?

All Drinks combines the volumes you recorded across all 17 categories for the local calendar day. Its breakdown shows each drink type. For example, Water 250 ml, Coffee 240 ml and Tea 200 ml give an All Drinks total of 690 ml; Water progress remains 250 ml.

How do I Undo an incorrect entry?

Use Undo beside Today in the relevant view. Water removes today’s latest eligible Water entry; All Drinks removes today’s latest eligible entry of any supported type. Earlier or other entries remain. The app keeps a deletion identifier to prevent a delayed synchronized copy from bringing the entry back.

Undo is scoped to the latest eligible entry. Use the separate confirmed Delete All History flow described below to remove all stored drink records; neither action erases backups or deletion identifiers.

Which categories and preparation details are supported?

The 17 categories are Water, Coffee, Tea, Green Tea, Matcha, Juice, Sparkling Water, Soft Drinks, Beer, Milk, Red Wine, White Wine, Rosé Wine, Energy Drinks, Cocktail, Protein Shake and Smoothie. Category amounts are editable shortcuts, not recommended serving sizes. Supported categories offer optional milk, sugar or caffeine details. Values are supplied by you, do not change logged volume and do not calculate calories or automatic caffeine totals.

How do I correct or delete an older record?

Open History and tap a record to correct its amount. Use the explicit Delete action to remove a record. To remove several records, use History’s Edit mode, select the intended records and confirm Delete. Recheck the selected count before confirmation. Corrections retain drink type, original time, source and preparation. The removed original identity is retained as a deletion identifier. Selected-record deletion affects the records you confirm; it is not a device/backup erasure.

How do I delete all drink history?

Open Settings → Data Management → Delete All History. Review the complete stored count, then confirm the separate destructive alert. Cancel keeps history. The operation cannot be undone. Settings, favorites, Apple/device backups and minimal deletion identifiers are kept.

With an installed paired Watch app, open the updated app on your Watch and keep it reachable before starting. The complete Watch history must be verified first; an offline or older companion blocks deletion. If history changes before the phone commits, review and confirm again. New logs after the confirmed boundary are kept.

If the phone has saved deletion but the Watch acknowledgement is pending, keep both apps open and connected, then use Retry Watch sync. The app retains the pending operation across relaunch and marks completion only after the Watch store/cache acknowledges the targeted records. Visible widget/face refresh still follows Apple’s timing. Do not uninstall or clear stores to force synchronization.

What does History contain?

Recent history groups stored records by local calendar day, including older stored records. Its summary covers the last seven local days; each day’s total and rows show your logged categories. Insights offers 7- and 30-day trends, averages and composition. Goal comparisons use your current Water goal, not saved past goal settings. Today is still incomplete. These are saved logs, not a measurement of everything you consumed or a reconstruction of past goal completion. Changing timezone can change which local date a record falls on.

Does Water outside my daily window count?

Yes. All Water recorded in the local calendar day counts toward that day’s goal. The window sets your pace and reminder hours. It must start and end on the same day, with the end later than the start; overnight windows are not supported.

How do reminders work?

Enable reminders in Settings and allow notifications when asked. You can decline permission and continue logging.

Regular reminders: turn Smart reminders off and choose your clock times within the same-day window. The local requests repeat daily without needing you to reopen the app. They remain fixed-time alerts, including after you reach the goal or log a recent sip; goal and cooldown do not conditionally suppress them while suspended.

Smart reminders: use your saved Water totals, pacing and cooldown to plan today and the next two local calendar days. Extending this plan requires another successful refresh when the app or a supported action can run. Opening the app or successfully logging through a widget or notification action can provide that opportunity. Watch changes depend on reaching the phone and available phone execution. Viewing a widget or receiving an alert alone does not extend the Smart plan. Several days without a refresh can leave no upcoming Smart reminders.

Permission, Focus, operating-system scheduling and device state affect delivery in both modes. Neither is continuous background monitoring or a medical alert. Changing reminder mode is your choice; the app does not silently change an existing Smart preference.

What do the reminder’s +250 and Bottle actions do?

+250 records 250 ml of Water. Bottle uses your configured capacity at the time of the action. Use an action only when you want to record that amount, then check the saved entry in the app.

How do I add an iPhone widget?

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, choose Add Widget (through “+” or Edit, depending on iOS), and search for THE RING. Choose an available size and add it. The widget shows Water progress and provides the Water actions available in that layout. Your recorded Water goal remains separate from Coffee and Tea.

How do I use THE RING on Apple Watch?

Install the companion on your paired Apple Watch using the Watch app on iPhone if it is not already installed. Open THE RING on the Watch to view Water progress and log Water. Add its complication to a compatible watch face for a Water-progress view; tapping it opens the Watch app.

The Watch keeps local records and synchronizes with the paired iPhone when communication and execution are available. Offline entries can arrive later; immediate synchronization is not guaranteed.

Where are my records stored?

Records and preferences are stored on your devices. The iPhone app and widgets share local storage. The Watch has a separate store, and paired transfers include all typed records, optional preparation, preferences and deletion identifiers. Both companions must be updated for preparation-aware synchronization; older protocol peers pause sync rather than discard metadata. Watch progress is still Water-first. There is no developer-hosted THE RING history account or backup service.

How do I change language, region or units?

Choose Language in THE RING Settings or on first launch. The native in-app picker offers 18 languages and an automatic system-language option. Device region settings control regional formatting. The app supports 18 languages. The Watch uses its native device settings.

Enter amounts in whole milliliters. Larger values may appear in liters. There is no ounces or unit-selector setting in this version.

5. Troubleshooting

Reminders are missing or delayed

Check iPhone notification permission, Focus, the chosen mode and daily window. In Regular mode, confirm the eligible clock times; a goal or recent sip does not suppress these daily repeats. In Smart mode, goal completion, pacing and cooldown affect the finite plan; reopen THE RING after several days away or permission changes to allow a refresh. Delivery is still controlled by iOS.

A widget, Watch or complication shows an older total

First, open the iPhone app and confirm that the entry saved without an error. Widget and complication refresh timing is controlled by Apple’s system. For Watch sync, check installation, app versions and the paired-device connection, then open the app on both devices. Changes may arrive later. Contact support if totals remain inconsistent; do not delete your history as a first troubleshooting step.

I am considering reinstalling or changing devices

Do not rely on reinstalling to recover records. App removal may lose local data while paired-device, cache or backup copies remain. Apple backups may contain copies, but restoration is not guaranteed. There is no developer history server to recover from. Ask support before taking destructive steps if you need help preserving data.
